Newborn Tips

What should they sleep in?

This is entirely up to you, some have a moses basket each, some put both twins in one cot together and some put them in separate cots. My two shared a cot together until they were 6 weeks old and then we put them in separate cots but next to each other. During the day we had a travel cot in the lounge where they took their naps together. We got one with a base that can be raised up so you don't need to keep bending down so much.

What about bedding?

You tend to get four of everything so four sheets etc and four blankets. A tip we got from the hospital was to put a folded up sheet or muslin under their head so if they are a little sick you can just change that sheet and not the whole bed every time.

What about clothes?

Lots of vests and sleepsuits so you don't need to wash all the time! If you are expecting two of the same sex let people know if you want to dress them the same or not for when they buy you clothes as presents! Don't buy many 'proper' clothes, I bet you won't have them in anything apart from babygrows for a good few weeks!

Early Days Feeding

If you want to breastfeed try and not get formula or bottles in so you won't be tempted! You can always get stuff quite quickly should you need it at a later stage. If you want to bottle feed get lots of bottles. We had 12 at one time (6 feeds a day times two) this way you can wash/sterilise etc once or twice a day and not every time you need to feed.

"If you plan to breast feed the EZ nursing cushion is a must! I wouldnt have been able to feed for so long without one!" Rachael C

"When I moved onto bottle feeding my twins preferred drinking warm milk! I used the Tommee Tippee travel bottle warmer all the time when we were out and about!" Gemma K

If you can start to fill your freezer with easy food for yourselves. Something you can chuck in the oven or make really quickly. If people ask you if you need anything in the early days tell them ready made food, it's a godsend when you're trying to feed yourself in between everything else!

Making Life Easier!

"My one and only tip is to buy a sling! Then you can sling one twin, hold the other and then have the luxury of a spare hand!" Rachael C

Places to visit

Jubilee Play Centre

Jubilee Play Centre, Shuttleworth Old Warden. I took my twins here on a week day and it was great fun. We had some lunch in the cafe which was very twin friendly. I could fit the doube buggy in easily and there was several high chairs. The play centre is outside and is made up of lots of different play equipment and areas for picnics. There is several areas seperated by hedges which all have a different climbing frame and equipment in. My children enjoyed playing in the wigwam and on the small wooden climbing frame but especially loved the space to run! There's plenty of benches to sit on and watch the children play in a lovely, beautifully kept play area. There is a donation box and the suggested donation is 50p per child, donations go towards the up keep of the area. Overall a lovely twin friendly place.
